Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado

With their four children’s wide age range, the Lutz family prefers a vacation that provides activities for all of them to enjoy together, making the Keystone ski resort in Colorado stand out as their favorite family getaway. Along with the healthy, refreshing feel of mountain air, the breathtaking scenery, and a whole lot of exercise, the Keystone slopes provide the family of six with something they all have fun doing—skiing! A typical day at Keystone for the Lutz family includes rising early from their condo that resides at the base of the slopes and skiing through to lunch, at which time they regroup back at the condo to re-energize for their afternoon ski. It isn’t until dinnertime that the Lutz’s bring an end to their ski session, depart from the slopes for the day, by now, “the young ones are worn out and quiet, so we’re usually able to wind down by the fireplace with some music and wine. It’s really nice” (Julia).

The family has voted their favorite family recipe to be Julia’s barbeque ribs, brazed and rubbed with a spice rub combination of chili pepper, brown sugar, onion, and garlic, wrapped in foil, and placed in the oven for 5 or 6 hours at 250 degrees. The finished product?... Tender, juicy ribs that fall of the bone—“topped with my very own ‘homemade’ Montgomery Inn Sauce,” jokes Mrs. Lutz—“Everyone in the family loves them; they’re really simple, but they think I’m a gourmet chef whenever I make them!”

Jim and Julia Lutz have been happily married for 24 years, and currently reside in the very first Indian Hill home they purchased together. Their eldest son, David, 21, is in the process of earning his degree at the University of Cincinnati; Joseph, 18, now at St. Xavier High School, plans to attend Ohio State University in the fall; Olivia, 8, is currently a student at Indian Hill Elementary, with Daniel, 6, at Indian Hill Primary.
