Newport, Rhode Island

The Ahern family likes to spend their summers East coast-bound, in the town of Newport, Rhode Island. “It is the perfect summer get away,” says Arthur Ahern. The weather is always warm and sunny with a breathtaking breeze. The Clark Cooke House is a favorite restaurant of our family’s. The workers know us there and the service is always excellent. Even if a family is not from the Newport area, the restaurant makes their new customers feel welcome with the upmost hospitality. Taking a tour of The Breakers is something a family shouldn’t miss even a short visit to the town. The homes are luxurious and take you into a world that is hard to imagine, once existed. The shopping in the town is very diverse that varies from small souvenir shops to Badgley Mischka. The Newport Kite Festival is also an attraction that the Ahern’s look forward to every summer. The festival is held at the Brenton Pointe State Park which is a beautiful beach with gorgeous views of the ocean. Newport is a place where we can escape to a life where driving cars is secondary to walking, and everyone acts as though they have been neighbors all their lives. “It is a small town but has something for everyone to enjoy,” said the Aherns.

But a closer look reveals many unusual or hard-to-find specialty products that kick "travel preparedness" up a notch! Travelessence also offers periodic Travel Tuesday workshops on a variety of travel-related topics. Travel Tuesdays are free and open to the public.
